Grauwe Ganzen

 Greylag Geese:

From April till June you can observe cute baby greylag geese in many places in the Netherlands. A greylag goose lays around 4 to 8 eggs per clutch. After about 4 weeks the eggs hatch. After hatching the young will follow the first moving object the encounter. Usually this is their mother but it can also be a human or dog if it passes by accident.

The adult geese take care of the young for about 8 weeks before the young go live on their own. A few days after hatching the young greylag geese leave the nest to search for food. The main diet of the young greylag geese consist of grasses.

We have visited the geese families a couple of times. We photographed the young alone and together with their parents. You can view the photo's on the next page.
